Ingredients
Beef
1 lb 85/15 ground beef
1 Tbsp olive oil
1/2 onion, diced
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp paprika
Salt + pepper

Rice
1 cup jasmine rice (uncooked)
2 cups water
1/2 tsp salt

Directions

Step 1 – Get the Rice Dialed In
Start by rinsing your rice under cold water, moving it around with your fingers until the water runs mostly clear. This removes excess starch so your rice stays separate instead of clumping together.
Add the rice to a pot with water and salt. Bring it to a boil over medium-high heat, then lower the heat to low and cover with a lid. Let it cook undisturbed for 15 minutes.
Once time is up, turn off the heat but keep the lid on. Let it sit for another 5 minutes to finish steaming, then fluff it with a fork.
(Getting this right once makes every future meal easier. Mess it up and you’ll feel it all week.)

Step 2 – Build a Proper Base in the Pan
Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add the ground beef and press it down into an even layer across the pan so it has full contact.
Now leave it alone for 2–3 minutes so the bottom develops a brown crust before you touch it.
(This is where most people mess up. Stir too early and you lose the flavor before it even starts.)

Step 3 – Break It Up and Layer Flavor
Once the bottom is browned, start breaking the beef into chunks using a spatula. Add diced onion, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Stir occasionally, not constantly, letting parts of the beef stay in contact with the pan so it keeps browning.
(You’re building texture here, not just cooking meat. That’s the difference.)

Step 4 – Manage the Fat, Don’t Eliminate It
Once the beef is fully cooked and the onions are soft, check how much grease is in the pan. If there’s a lot, drain some of it off, but leave a little behind.
(A small amount keeps it juicy and reheats better. Too much just weighs the whole meal down.)

Step 5 – Bring It Together
Spoon the beef over your rice and mix lightly so the juices coat everything. Don’t overmix it or it turns into one uniform texture.
While it cools slightly, hit 15–20 pushups. No reason to just stand there waiting.

Step 6 – Finish and Eat
Take a bite and adjust with salt, pepper, or hot sauce if needed. Small adjustments here can take it from basic to actually solid.
Sit down and eat it while it’s warm. This is one of the simplest meals in the book, but when done right, it never gets old.
