Ingredients
Salmon
2 salmon fillets
1 Tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Glaze
3 garlic cloves, minced
2 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
Sides
2 cups roasted broccoli
1 cup jasmine rice
Optional
green onion
sesame seeds
lime wedges
Directions
Step 1 – Roast the Broccoli First
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees and spread the broccoli onto a baking sheet. Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper, then spread everything into an even layer with space between the florets. (Crowded broccoli steams. Space creates those crispy roasted edges that actually make vegetables exciting.)
Roast for about 20–25 minutes until the edges become dark golden and slightly crisp.
Step 2 – Prep the Salmon Properly
Pat the salmon dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt and pepper. Dry salmon develops much better color and texture once it hits the pan. (Moisture is the enemy of good searing.)
Let the fish sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before cooking so it cooks more evenly throughout.
Step 3 – Build the Glaze Separately
In a small bowl mix together garlic, honey, soy sauce, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes until fully combined. (Making the glaze ahead of time prevents scrambling around while the salmon cooks.)
The honey helps create a glossy finish while the soy sauce and garlic build depth and balance.
Step 4 – Cook the Salmon With Patience
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and place the salmon presentation-side down first. Let it cook untouched for about 4–5 minutes until golden around the edges and naturally releasing from the pan. (Fish tells you when it’s ready to flip. Forcing it usually destroys the crust.)
Flip carefully and lower the heat slightly before pouring in the glaze.
Step 5 – Spoon the Sauce Over Everything
As the glaze bubbles gently, tilt the pan slightly and spoon the sauce repeatedly over the salmon for about 1–2 minutes. (This is the part where the meal suddenly feels expensive.)
The glaze should thicken slightly and coat the salmon without becoming sticky or burnt.
Step 6 – Build a Balanced Plate
Serve the salmon over rice alongside roasted broccoli and spoon extra glaze from the pan over everything before serving. The roasted broccoli helps balance the sweetness of the glaze while adding texture and freshness. (Balanced meals feel much more satisfying once every component brings something different.)
Fork Cancer Tip
Salmon, broccoli, garlic, and balanced whole-food meals are commonly associated with nutrient-dense eating patterns that include healthy fats, fiber, and overall wellness support.
