Ingredients
Base
4–6 bao buns (store-bought, frozen is perfect)
Filling
1/2 lb chicken thighs or pork, thinly sliced
1 Tbsp. oil
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
Sauce
2 Tbsp. hoisin sauce
1 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 tsp. honey
1 tsp. chili paste or sriracha
Toppings
1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced
1/2 cup shredded carrots
2 green onions, sliced
Optional: sesame seeds, mayo drizzle
Directions
Step 1 – Cook the meat
Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the sliced chicken or pork, season with salt and pepper, and cook for about 5–7 minutes until browned and slightly crispy at the edges. (a little crisp = a lot more flavor)
Step 2 – Add the sauce
Lower the heat and add hoisin, soy sauce, honey, and chili paste. Toss everything together and let it cook for another 1–2 minutes until the meat is coated and glossy. (this is the “wait… hold on” moment)
Step 3 – Steam the buns
Steam the bao buns according to package instructions (usually 5–7 minutes). They should come out soft, fluffy, and warm. (don’t microwave if you can avoid it — steaming hits different)
Step 4 – Build the buns
Open each bao and fill with the meat, then add cucumber, carrots, and green onions. Don’t overfill — keep it clean so it’s easy to eat. (controlled build = better bite)
Step 5 – Serve immediately
Serve while warm and soft.
Rizz tip
To be funny hand them the plate and say Boa down.
